Deconstructing the medium

I won't go so far as to say this is a great Woody Allen film, but it's a good one, and more importantly, an interesting one. From the start, Allen pointedly shows we'll have to pay attention to understand. The film is not a new experiment in structure - the technique of sliping in and out of "fictional" realities has been popping up for years - but Allen embraces it beyond the mere surface approach that is usually seen. The title is not just something to reference the movie with, but reflects the nature of this work such that any other title would, unfortunately, be as uselessly descriptive as half the posters at your typical theater.

Yes, we have Woody, and he's got relationship issues - ex-wives, infidelity, dubious morality, and surrounded as usual by an excellent cast. The gags are funny, the situations ludicrous, and you don't necessarily need to find Harry to be a sympathetic character to enjoy it (which might help some of you).
