At War With Itself Angels at war? Where? In heaven or just on earth? This movie has less metaphysical cohesion than Dogma, but it's cooler. Why? Just one reason - Christopher Walken. He makes one bad-ass Angel Gabriel. He sits and watches like some kind of evil bird. Walken really creates his own character here, rather than relying just on his own famed speech patterns to do the job.
The rest of the film? The plot is dumb. Lucifer is dumb. There's a male protagonist, with a complicated backstory that's supposed to matter, but doesn't really. And guess what? He teams up later on with a secondary female protagonist. We don't care whether they get it on or not. Really, it's hard not to root for Gabriel to win out just because he's more interesting to watch than anyone else.
