A priest and a rabbi... It's strange I would like this film about religion and it's not just becaue I've been to a restaurant casually mentioned at one point. It's a comedy with complex situations, and those situations are allowed to be developed fully. Just look at the runtime - most cookie-cutter comedies clock in just over ninety minutes, while Keeping the Faith runs to over two hours.
Edward Norton plays the priest, and also directs. Throw in Ben Stiller as the rabbi, and Jenna Elfman as a succesful, but workaholic, businesswoman. Their efforts are touching and believable as characters who mean well, but run afoul of the sorts of personal messes that really happen. Norton's debut directing job is light and unobtrusive, but that is what works with the material.
