This movie is directed by Tim Hunter. This movie is well done. It' surprising to see the career of Hunter. He goes on to direct shows for TV almost exclusively. He does episodes of Twin Peaks and many more.

Starring many cult figures: Keanu Reeves, Dennis Hopper, Ione Skye, Crispin Glover; the River's Edge has a natural cult following.

Hunter's movie follows a truly creepy performance of Daniel Roebuck as John. John kills his girlfriend. It's not really apparent why he does it. Most of the movie deals with John's circle of friends and their reaction. Mostly focusing on Reeves and Glover's characters, there are some very memorable scenes:

--Keanu and his younger siblings

--Crispin and Hopper as Layne and Feck, trying to find weed in Feck's house

--Keanu and Ione hooking up in the park while the police search for John

--Layne driving his aging VW bug into the middle of the intersection

--Feck and his 'girlfriend'

Hunter's main themes are certainly alienation, disenfranchisement, and the fragile link between sex and death. Worth watching.
