Hollywood is very hit and miss in terms of relationship stories. In particular, this combination of a star vehicle (for Julia Roberts) and themes of troubles in relationships just falls a little flat. The story is about plot, rather than character, and though mostly well acted, that's just not enough to be believable.

I hate doing this to Lasse Hallström, but despite a fine directing job, there's too much lacking in the story to recommend it. Aspects of the ending almost make up for the rest of the movie, but again, it just misses. If you like Julia Roberts, you'll probably like it, otherwise you should just pass.
