Not quite what I expected First thing to note here is that I haven't read the book. Usually, a movie is meant to stand on its own, so that shouldn't be a problem.
Given the wide opening, and phenomenal grosses, one would think this is aimed at general audiences, but to me it seems more for pre-teens. The characters are mostly drawn with very broad strokes, even worse, redundant strokes.
