a well done musical
It's hard to judge a movie like this when it's so different from what gets released in the current time period. However, an accidental viewing on TCM proved it to be a really refreshing change of pace.
Most often, I'm put off by musical movies, even though I spent quite a bit of time around musical theater in the past. They never seem to flow well, and to me always feel like something thats been wedged in to a normal movie. However, with Singin' in the Rain, the musical transitions seemed much more smooth, and the numbers held my attention in more than an average manner. Perhaps it helped that the focus was weighted more to dancing than singing, but either way, watching Kelly, O'Connor, and Reynolds was a real pleasure. The end get's a little flamboyant with the gotta dance number, but it seems forgivable.
