advancing past your demons With the writing of Tennessee Williams, and a cast of Richard Burton, Eva Gardner, and Deborah Kerr it's probably hard to go wrong. Originally written for the stage, the play like feel comes through in the movie and produces an effect I enjoy.
Richard Burton plays a one day preacher who was run out of his church in the states and now bounces around between low end tour guide jobs and bouts of self induced pitty. He meets his match of sorts in the three women played by Gardner, Kerr, and Sue Lyon. The balance between the time they are out on tour and the time they spend in the hotel is just right, and Burton and the ladies play great characters. Modern screen writers could stand to remember some of the tools and techniques used by playwrights to deliver strong stories in a less technical medium than film has become today. p.s. The cabana boys are great!
